Kanchi Mamunivar Government Institute for Postgraduate Studies and Research (KMGIPSR), Puducherry is a Government-run institution under the administration of the Directorate of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Puducherry. Established in 1989, its objective is to provide affordable higher education at the postgraduate and research level to both urban and rural communities. Affiliated with Pondicherry University, KMGIPSR offers sixteen postgraduate programmes and fifteen doctoral programmes across Arts, Humanities, Commerce, and Science disciplines. Since 1993, the institute has received recognition under sections 2f and 12B of the UGC Act, 1956.
The Department of Botany offers the M.Sc. Botany and Ph.D Botany programmes.

| Eligibility: | B.Sc. Botany / Plant Science / Plant Biology and Biotechnology/Biotechnology/Microbiology or any other degree approved as equivalent to B.Sc. Botany by Pondicherry University. |
| Other state candidates are allowed to apply and appear in the entrance examination for Ph. D. admission into their respective departments. Their admission will be materialised if the vacancy rose after distributing the existing seats to the Puducherry residents. |

| Candidates must hold a Master’s degree (10+2+3+2 or 10+2+5 pattern) in the relevant subject or allied discipline. |
| Minimum 55% marks (50% for SC/ST/OBC (Non creamy layer)/PwD). |
| Final-year PG students may apply. |
| JRF/ NET/ UGC-CSIR/INSPIRE fellows and the candidates who have qualified in Category 2 (i.e., qualified for Appointment as Assistant Professor) and Category 3 (i.e. qualified for admission to Ph.D. only) based on CSIR-UGC NET 2026 / UGC-NET 2026 are exempted from entrance exam. |
